Hanna Schebesta is an Associate Professor in the LAW group at Wageningen University (WUR) in the Netherlands. Prior to this role, she was a Research Associate at the European University Institute (EUI) in Italy. She holds a PhD from the EUI, as well as an LLM in European and International Law, an LLB in European Law, and a BA in European Studies, all from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.
A Systems Perspective on Food, Farming & Fishery Law
Dr Hanna Schebesta is an Associate Professor at Wageningen University (WUR) in the LAW group, where she focuses on EU law and food law. Her personal research agenda, titled "Food Justice", explores transformative approaches to law in the context of the food system. It is structured around three key research lines:

Futurecasting the EU Food System through Anticipatory Law – Investigating systemic meta-regulation and legal tools to tackle major societal challenges.

Food System Solidarity – Exploring equity, inclusion, and justice in the governance of food systems.

A Methodological Shift in the Legal Discipline – Advocating for innovative legal research methods.
Dr. Schebesta is an experienced researcher with strong expertise in research design and project management. Her specializations lie in WTO and EU law, particularly in the areas of regulation, procedural law, liability, private standardisation, and public procurement law. Thematic domains of her work include food, agriculture, fish & aquaculture, aviation, and innovation.
She applies a diverse methodological toolkit, with a keen interest in behavioural, systematic quantitative, and qualitative legal research methods.

Next to her research, Dr Schebesta also coordinates the Food Law course of the MSc Food Safety specialisation 'Food Law & Regulatory Affairs'.
